Lakeland School Corporation Bus Monitor in Lagrange, Indiana

POSITION:Accommodation Route School Bus Monitor

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director

HOURS OF WORK/DAYS: 180 days per year (student days)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting school bus driver with transporting children who require transportation accommodations established by the students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from home to school and from school to home.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Help special needs students board and exit the school bus safely.
  2. Responsible for making sure all students are secure in their assigned bus seat before the school bus is in motion.
  3. In conjunction with the bus driver, monitor will provide direct supervision of students with special needs.
  4. Allow for flexibility of route changes and delays to accommodate student needs.
  5. Pick up students in the morning and return them home or to the designated bus stop in the afternoon.
  6. Follow a planned route on a time schedule.
  7. Ensure children stay in their seat at all times.
  8. Redirect unruly children and report inappropriate behavior to school administration for disciplinary action.
  9. Follow traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations
  10. Follow safety procedures to make sure they and all kids are safe
  11. Report accidents immediately.
  12. Enforce rules regarding conduct.
  13. All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High school diploma or High School Equivalent

EXPERIENCE: Must have a good driving history record.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL SKILLS::Ability to sit, stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear.

REQUIRED GENERAL SKILLS: Exceptional problem-solving and written and oral communication skills; strong ability to process tasks using online resources and a variety of software, including standard office software.

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position.
