Senior Operational Excellence Engineer

Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role:

The Senior Operational Excellence Engineer is a champion for implementation of Operational Excellence (OE), Allison Transmission's operating methodology that utilizes standardized practices to ensure lean, efficient, cost-effective and reliable operations. They also champion implementation of a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program, a component of OE, to drive continuous improvement in operational and maintenance metrics across the site. This individual leads and influences a medium to large group of employees (OE Pillar Teams) involved in OE and TPM initiatives, including mostly dotted-line and indirect reports. The position includes leadership, consulting, influencing, planning and directing the OE and TPM Program implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Focus will include implementation and execution of the Allison Transmission Operational Excellence system.

  • Facilitates, assists, and develops Operational Excellence and Total Preventative Maintenance related floor operations and removes barriers for employees to meet measurable objectives.

  • Participates in the training and development of Operations employees on Operational Excellence pillars.

  • Works with company leadership on implementing standards across Operations.

  • Follows the terms of the labor agreement and adheres to company policy.

  • Frequent contact with others outside the work group

  • Keeps management informed of developments as they occur.

Competencies & Behaviors:

  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles and application in manufacturing processes and procedures.

  • Knowledge and application of problem-solving tools such as 8D's

  • Knowledge and implementation of Total Productive Maintenance or similar reliability or continuous improvement program.

  • Oral and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively in cross-functional environments

  • Comfortable presenting across the business, including to senior leadership

  • Analytical ability for solving complex problems.

  • Ability to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output.

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field

Preferred:

  • TPM Certification; Master Black Belt, Shainin Red X

Experience

Required:

  • 7+ years' experience in role within manufacturing operations

Preferred:

  • 7+ years' experience in role within manufacturing operations

  • Manufacturing experience in heavy machining and assembly operations

Scope

  • Fully seasoned professional role: Has extensive experience in a field of study that are accountable for enterprise-wide projects and/or processes.

Travel Requirements

  • Less than 5% travel required.
