Position Summary

The purpose and mission of the Office of Public Health and Safety works to address root causes of crime and reduce violence in Indianapolis neighborhoods. The office convenes public safety and public health agencies along with community partners to execute focused policy efforts in the areas of food security, offender re-entry, and homelessness. The office acts as the coordinating agency for Mayor Joe Hogsett’s violent crime reduction strategies and comprehensive criminal justice reform efforts. The agency is able to do this by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the constituents of Indianapolis and Marion County.

Job Summary

Position will participate in the city’s efforts to link individuals re-entering society to various resources and community organizations across the city. Incumbent in this position coordinates with re-entry grant awardees and community partners concerning community events ensuring grant management requirements are met. The incumbent will provide direct services to high at-risk individuals re-entering society including housing, food, and equity. The incumbent must be able to plan, coordinate, and lead a plan of action on how to get a high-risk individual out of their inhibiting environment and onto a path that better serves the individual ultimately reducing recidivism. Position is controlled by standard operating policies and procedures. The incumbent must exercise good judgment when working with the community, maintaining integrity, and equity. Must have a valid driver’s license. Position reports to the Reentry Resource Coordinator Lead.

Position Responsibilities

• Coordinate with IMPD and OPHS leadership to identify and conduct outreach with juveniles and young adults most at risk for recidivating

• Meet quarterly to provide updates concerning fellowship, participants, and objectives moving forward for fiscal year

• Builds positive relationships with community members, neighborhood associations, law enforcement, schools, jails, and other government partners >• Attends community events and engages the community in pro-social activities

• Documents activity and progress of referrals received from community-based organizations and law enforcement partners

• Responds to immediate and non-immediate barriers presented to provide and connect those seeking resources with appropriate provider

• Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have strong public communications skills in both oral and written formats. Knowledge of the dynamics of the city’s re-entry barriers or capable of acquiring such knowledge. Willing to navigate in challenging neighborhoods and diverse groups of people. Must have good administrative and organizational skills for data entry and writing case notes. Must have experience with Microsoft office.

Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications

Associates’ Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field. Multi-lingual proficiency is a plus. Prior experience with criminal justice, law enforcement, or non-law enforcement violence reduction. Prior experience in state or local government. Experience with records management and grants management is a plus. Must have strong public communications skills in both oral and written formats. Prior experience in state or local government.
