Organization Overview:

Portfolio Project Management is a diverse and engaged group of drug development experts purposefully leading and managing projects and the portfolio to deliver needed medicines for patients. Pharma Project Management (PPM) provides strategic and operational drug development leadership across the Research and Development portfolio, integrating drug development across all functions and translating strategy into execution to deliver medicines to patients.

Responsibilities:

Facilitate and Support Asset Strategy and Delivery through Project Management Tools and Processes.

Scope Management:

  • Support the development of the asset strategy (leveraging quality decision making principles) and ensure alignment and integration of strategy with the approved scope (indications, resources, etc.).

  • Ensure proactive management of scope through the Change Management Process. Facilitate the development of a comprehensive global integrated plan outlining the molecule’s strategy and laying the groundwork for operational objectives.

Timeline Management:

  • Facilitate the creation and execution of development project plan and delivery of project milestones.

  • Hold functions accountable for achievement of key project deliverables in alignment with the development project plan and in compliance with corporate quality standards.

Cost Management:

  • Drive development and optimization of a global integrated development project budget while maintaining alignment with functional representatives and leadership.

  • Effectively use Portfolio Management Enablement & Transformation (PMET) processes and tools.

Communication Management:

  • Develop and implement a team communication plan aligned with asset strategy.

  • Drive accurate and timely communication of key project changes to the appropriate stakeholders.

  • Work with corporate affairs and investor relations to manage asset-related communication outside of the company.

Leadership:

  • Demonstrate the Team Lilly behaviours of Include, Innovate, Accelerate, and Deliver to influence without authority and enable team effectiveness using judgement-based decision making.

  • Model the behaviours put forth in the "On Leadership" White Paper and the LRL Innovation Leadership Profile as well as the Project Management White Papers.

  • Contribute to the development of others by being an active source of coaching and feedback to coworkers.

Project Management Tools and IT Management:

  • Provide quality and timely content using project management tools, ensuring appropriate access to information for team members.

Risk Management:

  • Monitor and prioritize risk with the team and communicate status of potential risk to leadership as appropriate.

  • Propose strategies to minimize risks and implement contingency plans when necessary.

Application/Improvement of Processes (Shared Learning)

  • Provide leadership acting as a resource to the business, fostering collaborative learning, driving process enhancements, and identifying special or complex requirements related to their primary responsibilities.

  • Identify and leverage opportunities to capture and share insights across different functions.

  • Highlight and propose areas for ongoing process improvement to the team and function: suggest methods to reduce drug development cycle times and costs.

  • Engage in retrospective project and process review meetings (i.e. after-action reviews) to identify issues and strengths and facilitate knowledge retention.

  • Liaise with Project Management Office (PMO) and with the Resource Modeling and Forecasting (RMF) and Portfolio Systems Team to identify, share, and incorporate best practices into future iterations of processes, tools, training, or guidance.

  • Coordinate with the Project Management Office (PMO) and with the Portfolio Management Enablement & Transformation (PMET) Team.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a health-related, scientific, or engineering field with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry, drug development, or project management.

  • Proven ability to lead effectively in complex and cross functional environments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Higher degrees or certifications (e.g. MS., MBA, Masters in Project Management, or PMP).

  • Previous experience with or knowledge of drug development processes.
