The Managing Director of Global IT Infrastructure and Operations, reporting to the CIO, is a senior leader accountable for the delivery of applications, services, infrastructure & related IT operations used to enable business capabilities and services across the enterprise. This role contributes to the development and execution of an enterprise-wide IT strategy that delivers business value in a flexible, agile, and innovative manner. The leader will bring experience, knowledge, and future vision for transforming the I&O function including its strategy, operating model, product and service offerings, and workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishes & executes the mission, vision & strategy for IT infrastructure and operations across the globe that supports the enterprise’s strategic imperatives.

  • Creates a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continual service improvement to improve the efficiency of IT infrastructure and operations capabilities through emerging technology, experimentation, Agile, DevOps, platform and product approaches.

  • Works collaboratively on the portfolio of services and governance needed to prioritize resources.

  • Leads a group of global professional and technical employees, as well as third-party service providers to deliver IT operational excellence.

  • Manages the full lifecycle of IT services in close collaboration with product and service owners to ensure business value is being realized and to measure and prioritize technical debt remediation (e.g SAP, Azure, MES, etc).

  • Builds successful relationships with key stakeholders to deliver IT services in a cost effective and efficient manner.

  • Works collaboratively with the architecture team to ensure required business outcomes are linked to future-state business capabilities and that solutions are aligned to the enterprise architecture framework and standards.

  • Develops and controls the annual IT infrastructure and operations budget in collaboration with the IT finance manager and drives continual cost optimization.

  • Establishes and manages integrated IT Service Management capabilities based on best practices and the use of key performance indicators and outcome driven metrics.

  • Works directly with the Program & Project Management Office (PMO) on the delivery projects and products that are focused on business value delivery.

  • Collaborates with the Chief Information Security Office (CISO) to ensure products and services meet security standards, that effective controls for processes and functions are established and managed and supports compliance and audit requirements.

  • Improves IT resilience by improving IT availability, reliability, and disaster recovery readiness.

  • Designs and develops a strong global IT operations team and reporting structure with the necessary skills and abilities.

  • Directs the development of an IT operations sourcing strategy and provides leadership oversight for vender relationship management.

Key Performance Measures:

  • IT Infrastructure and supported application availability metrics

  • IT I&O Budget metrics

  • Business value delivery and end user satisfaction metrics

  • Adherence to backup/recovery, vulnerability, and configuration management standards

  • Service provider SLA adherence for infrastructure components

  • Service provider coordination to meet problem resolution and project delivery expectations

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology/systems, business administration, related field, or equivalent work experience

  • 15 years previous experience in IT or business/industry

  • 12+years in management, with proven leader responsibility for managing large and complex infrastructure and operations teams, including strategy, budgeting, and staffing.

Preferred:

  • ITIL v3/v4 certification

Experience:

  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate an I&O vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns with the IT and business strategy

  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in complex environments where resources required for success may not be in direct control of this role

  • Evangelizing and implementing transformational initiatives where the target state included agile, DevOps, SRE, cloud adoption at scale.

  • Consolidating operations capabilities in large, complex enterprise organizations to deliver improved efficiency, while balancing customer preferences for agility.

  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning, and execution skills

  • Ability to build consensus, make decisions based on many variables, and gain support for major initiatives.

  • Self-starter who self-assesses and solicits feedback from others to improve their performance.

  • Experience developing strategies to leverage fusion teams that embrace business technologists

  • Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise

  • Delivery of hybrid working excellence to improve customer and user experiences

  • Developing staff including coaching, mentoring and performance management.

  • Maximizing effectiveness of nearshore / offshore resource models

  • Building cloud management solutions, including software development, integration, and ongoing engineering aspects

  • Creating self-service mechanisms to streamline infrastructure provisioning and ongoing management

  • Applying AI / ML to solve large data challenges and / or to enhance the customer experience

  • Budget planning and financial management, preferably with showback and/or chargeback models

  • Supporting the shift from Capex to Opex with processes - e.g., those to comprehensively manage and optimize cloud costs in a collaborative fashion.

  • Deep understanding of current and emerging I&O technologies and practices, and how other enterprises are employing them

  • Applying I&O capabilities to achieve regulatory or statutory compliance requirements.

  • Establishing and improving DevOps, as well as other working practices (e.g., ITIL).

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic staffing plan that ensures the right people are in the right roles at the right time, and employees are highly engaged and satisfied

  • Leading cloud adoption (at scale), including establishing governance mechanisms, delivering migration projects and modifying I&O’s target operating model.

  • Developing governance practices to track and measure the quality of services, and maintain service improvement plans.

  • Third-party management, working closely with sourcing and vendor managers.

Scope:

  • Global responsibility for IT Infrastructure and Operations

  • Participation in IT strategy formation

  • Support of for all IT projects globally

  • Very wide range of application & infrastructure technology knowledge

  • Manage up to 25 employees, both US and internationally-based; including Management-level as well as vendor staff of 100+ people

  • Frequent interaction with and presentations to CEO Staff and other peers on senior leadership team, across function.

  • Strategic leadership level, that develops corporate policies and authorizes their implementation

Occasional travel on an as needed basis.
