Position is responsible for assisting and coordinating in the planning, development and execution of athletic programs, events, and services for Indy Parks and Recreation. Position will develop a quality sports and athletic fields management program that supports people of all ages and abilities in their endeavor to participate in sports related activities. The activities will blend the recreational and competitive experiences to enhance the quality of life for those participating. Incumbent is required to exercise considerable independent judgment when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause inconsistencies and inconveniences as well as regulatory and budgetary problems. Incumbent will be required to make quick, concise, and correct decisions. Position reports to Senior Manager of Programs and Camps.

Position Responsibilities
Coordinates with park managers and regional managers in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of athletic programs, events, and services to include adult and youth athletic leagues, special events, clinics, and camps
Provides leadership and direction for the development of best practices in sports programming and athletic fields management
Manages department wide aspects of sports and athletic field management including city wide sports leagues
Enhances the safety and security of sports facilities and programs
Coordinates with park managers, regional managers, and senior managers to provide quality sports programming and athletic fields
Creates and maintains contracts and license agreements with partners that optimize the utilization of the department’s sports fields and recreation facilities
Advises on the development of the budgetary needs of athletic programs includes evaluation of revenue, expenses related to program delivery, capital improvement, maintenance, marketing, and training needs
Responsible for increasing revenue and operating within a budget
Determines cost recovery goals for athletic fields and sports programming.
Monitors revenue and expense and conducts fee structure analysis and explores opportunities for alternative funding sources
Develops sponsorship opportunities to support sustainability
Trains staff, coaches, officials and parents regarding sportsmanship and appropriate standards for behavior in sports and recreation
Develops new sports leagues, summer sports camps, and showcase events for youth
Assesses and evaluates current sports and fitness programs and establishes partnerships to complement and enhance the department’s services and offerings
Establishes use guidelines for private operators to ensure the department receives a competitive rental rate and a competitive percentage of gross
Reviews and updates existing partnerships with local school districts and outside agencies
Manages established maintenance standards for athletic fields with DPW staff and contractors and ensures compliance
Collaborates with managers, regional managers, senior managers, and operations leadership to manage aspects of personnel recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluation for sports and fitness programmatic staff
Ensures staff’s performance is evaluated by establishing a clear set of goals and expectations, tracking progress against goals, ensuring timely feedback, and addressing performance issues promptly
Ordering of supplies, materials, and equipment for athletic programs
Ensures revenues are deposited and accounted for according to Department policy
Assists in the planning and management of local, state, national, and international events
Establishes a professional rapport with volunteers, competitors, and sponsors
Knows the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of multiple sports and stays current on standards and trends in athletic programs, fitness, recreation, and sports to advise the department and guide future planning
Works with Communications team to develop and implement a marketing/promotion plan for promoting programs and events to surrounding community and appropriate user groups. Utilizes social media platforms to highlight programs and services
Assists with the training and certification of Indy Parks and Recreation volunteer coaches.
Maintains all necessary records and files for reporting and audit and maintains the confidentiality of all information
Uses software and variety of technology platforms to organize, document, track, and monitor work
Responsible for managing sports fields, neighborhood parks, and greenspaces
Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Sports Administration, Business Administration and/ or related field, and a minimum two (2) years of experience in the field of sports management or related field. One year of related work experience may be substituted for each year of formal education. Budget preparation and monitoring experience required. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet various deadlines is a must. Ability to communicate effectively in both forms – oral and written. Requires the knowledge of facility and program management. Valid driver’s license required.
