Instrumentation Specialist

  • 6 month contract to hire

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Instrumentation Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in maintaining and repairing laboratory instrumentation, writing detailed SOPs, and ensuring equipment reliability. Knowledge of HPLC systems, temperature mapping, lab balances, and pipettes is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in particle counters, viable air sampling, radiochemistry QC instrumentation, radiation safety protocols, Building Management Systems (BMS), and various sensors used in laboratory environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of laboratory instrumentation including HPLC systems, temperature mapping equipment, lab balances, and pipettes.

  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the operation, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation.

  • Monitor equipment performance, conduct preventive maintenance, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate new instrumentation technologies and provide recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacements.

  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for instrument installations, calibrations, and repairs.

  • Train laboratory staff on the proper use and maintenance of instrumentation.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, calibration, and repairs.

  • Ensure laboratory instrumentation meets quality standards and supports research and development activities effectively.

  • Implement and oversee protocols related to particle counting, viable air sampling, radiochemistry QC instrumentation, and radiation safety.

  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate instrumentation with Building Management Systems (BMS) and other automated systems.

  • Perform periodic audits and assessments to ensure instrumentation is operating efficiently and safely.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of X years of experience as an Instrumentation Specialist or similar role in a laboratory setting.

  • Strong proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting HPLC systems, temperature mapping devices, lab balances, and pipettes.

  • Experience with particle counters, viable air sampling, radiochemistry QC instrumentation, and radiation safety protocols is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and various sensors used in laboratory environments.

  • Proven ability to write detailed SOPs and technical reports.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to train and collaborate effectively with laboratory staff and external vendors.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards relevant to laboratory instrumentation.
