CAD Designer

Seeking a manufacturing-oriented mechanical CAD Designer for Allegion at the Indianapolis Exits location. In this role you are an integral part of our assembly engineering team and are responsible for fixture modeling using Creo as well as facilities layouts using AutoCAD drawing best practices. A key element of being successful in this role is to coordinate full life cycle fixture design work from initial concept to fabrication and build. This role gives you the opportunity to produce 2D and 3D designs to support continuous improvement initiatives. We keep Pushing Forward and look forward to pioneering the future together.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform design, modeling and drawing activities using graphical software tools – Creo and AutoCAD.

  • Be the subject matter expert for 3D printing (additive manufacturing) needed for a 3D-printed fixture proof-of-concepts.

  • Balance use of 3D modeling design reviews and 3D printing proof-of-concepts to ensure quality and pace.

  • Ability to apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing) when needed to reduce the number of design-build-test fit cycles.

  • Ability to convert 3D models to 2D design packets as needed to obtain fixture quotes.

  • Obtain quotes and see them through the purchase requisition process.

  • Maintain facilities layouts for 210,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility within a master file structure.

  • Update 2D CAD layout drawings to support process improvement activities.

  • Utilize digital measuring devices to generate accurate floor plans and to provide layout floor markings for the move plan.

  • Publish or plot layout exhibits per stakeholder request in multiple output formats.

  • Implement AutoCAD drawing best practices and standards with layer management.

  • Implement procedures to improve the CAD systems accuracy, security, and file sharing.

  • Draw prototype equipment from engineering concepts for internal fabrication with 2D views and 3D modeling.

  • Coordinate fixture design work through to completion with design review, in-house fabrication, and acceptance testing.

  • Support the electronic work instructions by manipulating 3D views in Adobe Illustrator.

  • Create 3D models of production cells for equipment, fixtures, operators, and materials to identify issues and to communicate changes.

  • Perform additional assignments to support process engineering projects.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Proficient with Creo or other 3D solid modeling program (required).

  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD: minimum 2 years (required).

  • Associates CAD Design or other technical degree (preferred).

  • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment working with skilled trades.

  • Willingness to learn new modeling programs as needed to perform duties.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio).

  • Experience or willingness to learn Adobe Illustrator to support 3D illustrations.

  • Familiarity with agile development for incremental design and continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration skills to work with internal resources to produce designs and implement into workstations in the production cell.

  • Mechanical and analytical skills to conceptualize 2D and 3D drawings.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Ability to work from sketches and verbal information supplied by engineer or team members.

  • Review own work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Demonstrate effective time management to meet project deadlines.

  • Attention to detail, and a customer-oriented attitude toward changes.

  • Willingness to be hands-on to see designs through the entire process including design, build, test, and release to production.
