Associate Director - Data Solutions Architect – IndyAPI Manufacturing

Position Brand Description

You will be part of Tech at Lilly MQ (Manufacturing and Quality), an organization that drives manufacturing operational excellence and productivity efforts through utilization of technology. Tech at Lilly MQ strives to enable the making of medicine “with safety first and quality always”.

As Data Solutions Architect you will be responsible for defining, designing, building, and maintaining the data architecture vision, strategy, and principles for the IndyAPI Manufacturing Site. Define standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, transforming, and searching all data within the enterprise or a business function. Data architect has deep working knowledge of how data is or will be used and implications on people, processes, capabilities, and technologies including analytics and data integrations. This role requires skills such as data modeling, data warehousing, data integration, data governance and an understanding of data security, data standards, and cloud architecture principles. Data architects work closely with data producers, information management, data engineers, and data consumers.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Data/Information Strategy includes the ability to work with business to identify future uses for Lilly data and anticipated business results and enable processes to support these needs.

  • Data Planning/Modeling and Data Lifecycle Design includes the ability to develop a technical strategy for future data structure and data integration.

  • Develop and provide expertise in enterprise data domains; this includes data relationships, data quality, understanding of business data needs and the associated technology toolsets and methodologies.

  • Develop understanding how the enterprise data strategies, platforms, and technologies enable business execution. Use this knowledge to appropriately challenge status quo and drive business and Tech at Lilly collaborations.

  • Analyze data from multiple domains; discover trends and associations, synthesize new integration constructs that assist non-expert users to find similar trends and associations.

  • Use cutting edge information technologies to organize and analyze data.

  • Continuously scan the technology environment for new trends and techniques; interface with external consultants and thought leaders as needed.

  • Synthesize new scalable approaches for Lilly data integration; derive the supporting arguments, communicate, and articulate the reasons for the new approaches to fellow engineers as well as senior management.

  • Collaborate with other Tech@Lilly partners such as Digital Core, DIA, AADS etc.

What You Should Bring

  • All data architecture roles should have a foundational set of knowledge in:

  • Demonstrated communication, leadership, teamwork, project delivery, and problem solving skills

  • Experienced in architectural processes (e.g. blueprinting, reference architecture, governance, etc.),

  • Health care industry knowledge and business acumen

  • Experience leader leading large scale portfolios in a dynamic environment

  • Demonstrated ability to influence IT and business strategies to drive large-scale outcomes.

  • Validated skills of strong learning agility and relationship building to influence change using knowledge and relationships.

  • Successful record of high quality, user focused, on-time & budget IT service and project delivery.

  • Experience with formal project management methodologies, agile frameworks (including Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc. ) and working knowledge of associated practices and tools.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, working across agile and diverse teams.

  • A high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical field

  • 10+ years of experience designing large scale data models for functional, operational, and analytical environments (Conceptual, Logical, Physical & Dimensional)

  • 7+ years of experience in several of the following disciplines: statistical methods, data modeling, ontology development, semantic graph construction and/or linked data, relational schema design.

Additional Preferences

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

  • Demonstrated SQL and data modeling proficiency. Experience with data tools such as, SQL Developer, DBeaver, TOAD, and Denodo.

  • Strong experience designing and developing with Microsoft O365 tools (Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint, etc).

  • Experience in validation of data solutions for a GMP environment.

  • Experience with Emerson Syncade manufacturing execution system.

  • Experience in cloud technologies: AWS and/or Azure.

  • Experience with security models and development on large data sets

  • Experience with multiple database technologies and solutions (e.g. Oracle, Postgres, Redshift, Aurora, Athena) and formal database designs (3NF, Dimensional Models)

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large, complex data domains and craft practical solutions for subsequent data exploitation via analytics.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a geographically dispersed group of business and technical colleagues

  • Ability to review and provide practical recommendations on design patterns, performance considerations & optimization, database versions, and database deployment strategies

  • Knowledgeable in data functions such as Data Governance, Master Data Management, Business Intelligence

  • Experience in moving on premises solutions into cloud and knowledge in multiple data ingestion patterns

  • Exposure to international operations, diverse teams, global IT projects, or working in a global organization.

  • Previous Agile experience. Experience with Agile Development, CI/CD, Jenkins, Github, Automation platforms

  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Certification

  • AWS Solution Architect

  • Previous health care experience

  • Previous pharmaceutical manufacturing experience

Other Information

  • Role is Monday through Friday and based on-site, with 4-days per month remote. Must be flexible in providing support to accommodate other inputs (production schedules, shutdowns, etc.). Occasional extended hour and / or off-hour work may be required.

  • Position will be based out of the Indianapolis, IN site with ability to travel to other global Lilly sites as required.
