Lilly Associate Biologist in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company focuses on the discovery of biological, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications. We are seeking a skilled and motivated in vitro biologist to join our drug discovery and development team in the Dyslipidemia and New Modality research group in Indianapolis. The successful candidate will use strong molecular and cellular biology skills to initiate discovery efforts and support pipeline projects. The focus will be on therapeutics targeting obesity, metabolic disease, and dyslipidemia. You should have extensive experience in developing and implementing in vitro and cellular assays. Responsibilities include establishing critical lab capabilities and collaborating with other scientists within and across departments to achieve project and department goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement in vitro and cell-based experiments independently. Support preclinical characterization and evaluation of relevant targets and pathways using CRISPR technologies.

  • Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on samples from tissues and cells including RNA/gDNA isolation and analysis, gene and protein expression analyses, and other analytical techniques.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with high ownership and accountability. Show initiative and a record of success within cross-functional project teams.

  • Be adaptable, showing capability to establish new techniques, learn new biology, and quickly pivot in a data-driven environment.

Minimum requirements

  • BS or MS with 5+ years of experience

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience with cellular and molecular biology and in vitro assay development in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Proficiency in a wide array of cell biology techniques including cell culture, transfection, FACS, and other cell-based assays

  • Knowledge/hands-on experience in implementation of gene editing methods and analysis including gDNA/RNA isolation, sequencing (Sanger, NGS, long-read), gene expression (qPCR), ddPCR, and protein expression (western, JESS, ELISA, MSD).

  • A background in cell/molecular biology of obesity, metabolic disease, and dyslipidemia is a plus

  • Experience with complex cell culture systems, primary culture, co-culture, and stable cell line generation

  • Experience with various assay detection technologies (fluorescence, luminescence, FRET, alpha-screen, radiometric assays) and ability to implement and validate new technologies

  • Support the implementation of new assay technologies
