Lilly Advisor - Targeted Drug Delivery in Indianapolis, Indiana

This role is in Targeted delivery & Nanomedicine, within with Drug Delivery & New Product Innovation (DDNPI) group of DDCS (Delivery, Devices, and Connected Solutions) organization. DDNPI is a multidisciplinary group with deep technical expertise that works collaboratively with our discovery and drug product development colleagues. Located in Indianapolis, IN, scientists have full access to Lilly’s deep pharmaceutical development expertise and engineering capabilities. In this role, you will be part of a diverse team of Targeted delivery & Nanomedicine for the delivery of new modalities including nucleic acid, drug bio conjugates, and nanomedicine for Lilly’s next generation therapeutics.

Ideal candidate will work closely with The Targeted delivery and Nanomedicine leader as individual contributor within the DDCS/DDNPI group.

Position Responsibilities

Top candidates for this position will be expected to:

  • Apply laboratory-based experience in evaluation of nanomedicine with a wide spectrum of nucleic acid assets to produce targeted nanomedicine.

  • Develop and evaluate targeted nanoparticles for intracellular delivery.

  • Drive projects forward as an individual contributor and bench-focused scientist who can design and conduct experiments to advance hypothesis-driven science and technology development for intracellular drug delivery utilizing targeted nanomedicine approaches.

  • Possess prior experience in various nanomedicine formulations, analytics and functional test of those in vitro, ex vivo , and in vivo.

  • Spearhead new nanomedicine lab building with group leader to provide capability of material synthesis, nanomedicine formulation/process, analytics, and small-scale in vivo enabling sample production.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of pharmaceutical industry drug development process for nanomedicine regulatory requirements.

  • Identify and exploit new scientific concepts, strong problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated to contribute across multiple projects.

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to speak to technical aspects of works within the group and cross-functional collaborators.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in pharmaceutical science, materials engineering, polymers science, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field with 0-3 yr industry or academic post graduate experience.

  • Hands on experience in nanoparticle synthesis, fabrication, microfluidics.

Additional Skills and Preferences

  • Experience working with peptides.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with materials and nanoparticle characterization using modern chromatography methods, mass spectrometry, light scattering and AF4, small angle scattering methods, SEM, TEM, zeta potential, and more

  • Proven materials engineering ability as evidenced by a strong track record of publications, patents, and presentations

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and assays associated with measuring DNA and/or mRNA expression with reporter genes or functional genes

  • A strong background in materials science, polymers, bioconjugation and subcellular trafficking of macromolecules.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with formulating and characterizing nucleic acid-polymer complexes as single-component and multi-component material systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of biological barriers associated with gene delivery and strategies to overcome these barriers.

  • Proven ability to translate desired physical properties into the molecular design of biomaterials.

  • Proficiency with bioconjugation reactions.

  • Technical proficiency with nanoparticle formation by nanoprecipitation, microfluidics, other methods.

  • Strong mathematics competency for data analysis, including statistics.

  • Proficient with ImageJ, MATLAB, and GraphPad Prism.

  • Experience setting up nanomedicine process and analytical machine (e.g. impinging jet, microfluidics, lab scale TFF purification step) and running design of experiments.

  • Experience with a broad range of materials and cargoes used for nucleic acid delivery

  • Experience with in vivo experiments assessing biodistribution and reporter assays such as IVIS imaging, RNA scope, nanoimager etc.

  • Experience with confocal microscopy, Incucyte, flow cytometry or other fluorescence-based methods
