Job Summary:

A Field Leader for Electric Operations, Transmission Operations provides leadership to a team of represented dispatch employees who are directly responsible for directing the operation of the Transmission & Distribution Electric System. Implements and coordinates the installation and energization of high voltage equipment associated with the corporation and its customers

  • Supervises and provides guidance to Dispatcher-Operators, addressing and resolving routine and emergency substation and line switching, electric system restoration, and outage evaluation issues.

  • Manages the development and training of employees to improve individual and team performance

  • Ensures all training of personnel is up to date and compliant.

  • Supports operational and electric system emergencies on off hours as necessary

  • Develops and distributes electric substation operating orders, line operating orders, general orders and guidelines for all electric substations and lines.

  • Provides technical support and operational data to various operating, planning, andengineering groups to assist in the planning, installation, and operation of new equipment additions to the electric system with emphasis on future operational needs, system reliability, and safe switching practices.

  • Originates, distributes, and maintains single line diagrams for all electric substations and operating switching maps for all transmission lines.

  • Creates, provides, and maintains numerous technical information data bases associated with system operations and functions for and to all corporate electric operating and engineering groups.

  • Assigns equipment and line designations in and for electric substations, line switch, new and existing lines, and addresses special operating conditions within these areas.

  • Monitors current electric system operating conditions using Energy Management Systems and other computer data-based systems, as they become available, for abnormalities affecting or having the potential to affect safety and/or system reliability.

  • Works with Dispatcher -Operators and other operating groups to resolve transmission system and clearance issues.

  • Conducts frequent field inspections of construction sites to keep abreast of constructionprogress and maintains close affiliation with all field operating personnel.

  • Supervises and provides guidance to Dispatcher-Operators, addressing and resolving routine and emergency substation and line switching, electric system restoration, and outage evaluation issues.

  • Meets frequently with Planning, Engineering, Substation, Construction, Technical Service, Local Operating personnel, and customer groups to address current and future operationaland construction issues.

  • Supervises and assists with storm restoration efforts

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Graduate from a four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in EE, EET, or ECET

  • Understanding of basic engineering/technical theories and principles

  • Ability to read/interpret drawings/standards to analyze/solve problems

  • Knowledge of computer applications such as AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft 365

  • Knowledge of electric engineering

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Ability to perform duties with some supervision.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to effectively interact with customers, contractors, and various company operational and technical groups.

  • Possess organizational and planning skills.

  • Possess Team Building Skills.

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

  • Knowledge of electric system and dispatching operational concepts.

  • Ability to use high voltage test equipment

  • Experience supervising bargaining unit employees

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

Salary Range:

$91,000.00 - $136,600.00
