Forest Products Purchasing Specialist

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

Division / Department: Lumber & Building Materials (LBM)

Reporting to position: Forest Products Divisional Purchasing Manager

Travel: Bi-annual Do it Best markets and member/vendor travel as appropriate.

About the Role:

As a pivotal player in our LBM division, the Forest Products Purchasing Specialist is instrumental in driving sales growth by creating and enhancing our “drop ship” program offerings for our members. Leveraging innovative strategies and a keen eye for market trends, you'll collaborate closely with the department division manager to refine and elevate our product assortments, assist in optimizing our in inventory investment and implement on-market pricing strategies for our network of lumber reload facilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Spearhead the administration and evolution of drop shipment programs, optimizing vendor partnerships and logistics efficiency.

  • Assist in program selection processes, incorporating data-driven insights to meet consumer demands and trends.

  • Coordinate the rollout of innovative programs, from conception through implementation, to drive market differentiation.

  • Assist in the negotiation and execution of Market specials, aligning promotional activities with strategic goals.

  • With the purchasing team, conduct product evaluations and program reviews, leveraging feedback to drive continuous improvement.

  • Effectively communicate program updates to our Forest Products sales team maintaining transparency and engagement.

  • Develop and manage promotional offers, from negotiation to submission, to maximize sales opportunities.

    Education and Experience:

  • Minimum: A four-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with proficiency in Gsuite.

  • Desired: Experience in retail sales or wholesale/distribution, with specific knowledge of the home decor industry.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional problem-solving creativity and the ability to juggle multiple projects with precision.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with meticulous organizational abilities.

  • Independent work style, coupled with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.

  • Proficient in mathematical analyses, including ratios, rates, and percentages, with a talent for addressing complex problems.

  • A collaborative team player who values respect and positivity in all interactions.
