Job Title:

Test Engineer (NVH)

Key Job Elements:

• Perform vibration and sound experimental test programs, including test preparation, coordination, setup, data acquisition, data analysis and reporting;

• Support production / end of line testing; including test equipment setup and maintenance, review & approve production test results, and diagnose and troubleshoot issues that arise;

• Compile production / end of line test data for trend analysis and reporting;

• Solid understanding of noise and vibration principles;

• Adaptability and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment;

• Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards;

• Maintain noise and vibration test equipment;

• Communicate information to and from internal and external customers;

• Coordinate and consult with project engineers or project managers to assure smooth and successful project completion;

• Ability to perform light duty work and climb onto locomotives;

• Ability to work in an engineering, manufacturing, and customer environment;

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required (approx. 20%);

• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Technical associate degree or equivalent training / experience;

• Two or more years’ experience in the field of noise and vibration testing;

• Proficient skills with Microsoft Office products;

• Basic knowledge of one or more NVH testing & analysis software: Siemens LMS Simcenter Testlab, HEAD Acoustics, B & K Pulse, National Instruments Labview, and/or Vector tools (CANalyzer & CANape);

• Basic knowledge of NVH testing equipment such as impact hammers, accelerometers, shakers, microphones, tachometers, and other sensors;

• High level of mechanical aptitude;

• Analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult;

• Basic understanding of engineering theory and principles of design;

• Good oral and written communication skills;

• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others;

• Ability to work independently;

• Understanding of design and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications (Preferred):

• Experience in large structures testing;

• Locomotive familiarity or experience;

• Railway operations or supplier experience.

This position is not eligible for relocation benefits.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

• Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting or carrying (up to 30 pounds);

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment. Depending on assigned project, position may occasionally require motions involved in an industrial working environment, including some low to intense levels of pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grasping;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE. Position may require travel as necessary, both domestic and international;

• Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;

• Safety – Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
